One of the guys restored this kid's go-kart and we have donated it to some Ukrainian children who are delighted to have a new toy to play with. At the end of the month some members enjoyed a visit to the RNLI to hear how they function and enjoy a tour of the centre. we are invited to the Royal Terrace Residents party to celebrate the 'christening' of a new planter we made for them, donated by Dun Laoghaire Tidy Towns.

We have just been granted approval by Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council for a grant to purchase fruit trees. So the gardeners will be planning where to locate them around the car park, along the granite walls, as espalier trees. Some new members have joined the Art Group on Tuesday morning and we are trying to start a practical course for members to use computers with more confidence.

The customer who asked for the Red Cedar planter has added some decorative feature which makes it look fantastic. In the garden the tomatoes and cucumbers are growing steadily and we 've already picked strawberries and salads. Potatoes are flowering and the plum and greengage trees are also bearing fruit, and the flower beds are at their best. The barbecue was enjoyed by members and we hope to plan some more as the good weather continues. Another project was to restore a set of garden furniture. The Art Group continue to meet on Tuesday mornings and some recent work can be seen here.

After a lot of hard work we have completed the Red Cedar Planter and it looks great. We also made another planter so they are becoming popular. In addition we have also been asked to see if we can renew some garden furniture. The Gardening group are busy keeping weeds down after planting tomatoes in the greenhouses, and, various salads, brocoli, brussells sprouts, potatoes, broad beans, parsley, coriander, and strawberries outdoors. We have some cucumber seedlings coming along in pots and they will be ready for planting in the greenhouse next week. Our AGM is planned for 31 May followed by a barbecue. Our membership numbers have held firm and we have also welcomed some new members.

We were kept busy during March with designing, ordering materials for, and making, two new planters for Dun Laoghaire Tidy Towns, designing and starting to make a Red Cedar Planter/Trellis, making a new garden 3-seater bench with arms, and repairing a broken chair for Sallynoggin Parish. (They liked how we repaired their candlesticks in February!). The Gardeners have prepared the outdoor beds, ready for transplanting new seedlings that have come on well in the greenhouse. (Some of the strawberry runners from last year have even started to flower!). Soon we will be putting tomatoe seedlings into the greenhouse. We also had a courtesy visit by An Cathaoirleach, Mary Hanifin, which was an encouragement and recognition of the good work we are contributing to the local community.

Using the greenhouse over the winter months produced some spring cabbages which are now being lifted by members. We have some new strawberry plants grown from runners on last years crop. These are coming along nicely and will be planted out when the weather gets warmer. We are delighted to take delivery of our new chop saw and router, courteous of a grant from Dun laoghaire Rathdown Co. Council Community Grants Round 1 2023. Our old saw has given much to our projects over the years but has had to be 'retired'. Shortly we expect our planer thicknesser to arrive also. We have had an interesting afternoon meeting students at IADT, Dun Laoghaire discussing mental health. We were very impressed by the students' questions and we also benefitted from the group discussion. To be repeated!

We got great pleasure and learning out of restoring the Grandfather Chair. When the customer takes a photo of it with its new cushion we will let you see the finished article. Meantime we are continuing with orders for the 3-seater garden bench and two planters for Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Tidy Towns. The gardening year has started and we are sewing seeds for germination indoors and preparing the beds for planting potatoes and the seedlings when the weather permits transplanting outside. Sallynoggin Parish asked us to woodturn new holders for their Candlesticks.

We took delivery of our new fruit trees and bushes and have managed to get them planted around the Shed. The Gardening group are looking forward next year to tasty Apples, Pears, Blueberries, Blackberries, Blackcurrants, Whitecurrants in addition to the existing Plums and Greengages. We had our usual bounty of tomatoes and cucumbers from the greenhouses which have now been cleared and the soil refreshed from our compost bins. We also had a special EGM followed by a barbecue. Members made suggestions on how to better utilise our limited space both upstairs and downstairs. We need to free up space downstairs for better use of the floor area to facilitate the Art Group and start new activities like Computer Training. We have welcomed new members and are looking forward to the new season.

Welcome back to our new year. During the break some committee members came in and completed work on various projects. The old and the new seemed to be summed up in our restoration of a garden seat. Already we have an order for a 3-seater garden bench with arms and we have continued work on a red cedar canopy, and a family heirloom grandfather chair that we are repairing for the next generation. We are delighted to develop our community support by working with Ailt an Óir community centre to restore their garden area. With the Art group we visited the National Gallery to see the annual TURNER paintings on display, and plan regular visits for members in the coming months.

During December some members enjoyed a trip to Howth by DART with fish and chips for lunch. We alsohad our Christmas party on 14 December before closing for Christmas. In addition to members it was great to have old friends along to join us to enjoy some Christmas Fare. We close on 16 December and plan to re-open on January 6 but no doubt one or two will come down earlier! In the meantime we wish everyone a very Happy Christmas. Thanks to all who supported us during 2022 by donations, DLRCoCo Community Grants and especially Dalkey Motors for their sponsorship. Look forward to seeing you all in the new year.

The garden table (see September) is being repaired and we have an order for yet another garden planter. In preparation for Christmas we have increased our stock of wood-turned pens. Throughout the month we participated in the Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Co Council Festival of Inclusion by open house invitations to the Shed and we also had a stand in the Lexicon at the morning open day for older people on 29 September. Welcome to some new members who have joined us. Three members travelled up to Navan for an afternoon music festival and enjoyed a free carvery dinner before being entertained with live bands.

Since we re-opened we have been kept busy with gardening work. Everything is now being tidied up for the winter. Cucumbers and tomatoes are being cleared from the greenhouses but we have some winter cabbages ready for transplanting this week, before the end of the month. We've also made a few garden planters, (sample of one delivered to Dun Laoghaire Bowling Club, sponsored by Dun Laoghaire Tidy Towns) and built up our stock of woodturning items ready for the Christmas market. Just contact us if you want to purchase a Christmas gift. A few more garden items needing repaired have joined our steady production line. We enjoyed another barbecue together and are delighted to have a few new members join us. Art continues on Tuesday mornings.

The greenhouses are full of tomatoes of various types, which members are taking home to enjoy the sweet tastes. They have also enjoyed broadbeans (just finished as we approach the end of the month), brocoli and rhubard,... The cucumbers are firming up very fast now too and our first cabbage has gone home to provide a tasty dinner. It takes time to do watering so we are thinking we need a more automatic system. Here is a picture of some of the Art group enjoying Tuesday mornings. We also took delivery of a new table saw and stand.

We've been kept busy making and delivering the two planters and repairing another garden seat. Meantime we've been given seat ends for another two seats to have the wooden parts replaced. The gardening group are busy with weekly weeding and regular watering. Broad beans are nearly ready for harvesting and the tomatoes (both outside and in the greenhouse have small green fruits so we should be picking them in a few weeks. Brocoli, cabbages are also nearly ready for picking, and onions are maturing nicely. The Art group continues every Tuesday morning using a variety of mediums, watercolour, pastels, acrylic, and crayons. We need some assistance to use oils.

Members accepted the Audit Report and the Audited Accounts at the AGM so it is great to be up to date with our financial affairs.
Afterwards we enjoyed refreshments in the open air as the day was so warm and sunny. Maybe we will be able to plan a barbecue shortly!
Another order for a child's 3-legged stool, and for two 'planters', one for Dun Laoghaire Tidy Towns and another for a member.
Cabbages, brocoli, strawberries, onions and potatoes plants and tomatoes into the greenhouse. The surrounding flower beds are looking well after weeding.

Broadbeans are growing quickly now with warmer weather. Tomatoes are due into the greenhouses this month and strawberries to be planted out.
The 2 seater with arms has been built and delivered. And the new tables have arrived.
Our delayed (because of Covid) AGM is planned for 29th April. Thanks to Stephen Drury for not only auditing our accounts but also designing a new spreadsheet to record and manage our accounts. It will also provide the Annual Accounts very efficiently.
Welcome on to Committee to Andrew Clinch to represent the gardening group.

We have welcomed some new members this month and they have already made significant contributions in gardening and woodturning. Some broadbeans have been sown in pots and various seeds are being propagated in the greenhouse ready for planting out next month. Once the gardening year kicks in we expect to be busy, and we have been asked to do some work on a play area for a school playground.
The Art Group are very encouraged by the generous sponsorship now received from Dalkey Motor Company.
Never a dull moment so why not join us and add your contribution to the community both inside and outside the Shed.

Happy New Year. We are back open. Last year we were given a lovely old bookcase by Eve Mcauley, Shankill which has now been restored. This is the month for the Gardeners to tidy up the outdoor beds in preparation for the new sowing season. The Spring cabbages are ready for picking (some have already gone!). Again welcome to the new members who have joined in both this activity and in the Wood-turning. In the Wood-turning workshop we have also 'invented' some new techniques to extract the wood dust into extractor bag. The Art Group have also been encouraged by the offer of sponsorship by Dalkey Motor Company. The 2021 accounts have been prepared for Audit and when that is complete we will plan for the AGM (likely to be some time in February). New members are most welcome, just click CONTACT US above and use phone or email.

The year has flown by keeping us busy at woodturning, woodwork and gardening. Gardening has reduced with the colder weather and the recent storm but there are a few winter cabbages firming up in the greenhouse. Unfortunately on the Tuesday night we had another blow-in of a few panes of glass, despite weathering the Monday night initial impact. However these have been replaced. The three stools and the second garden seat should be finished before we close for Christmas after some mince pies on Wednesday 15th December, re-opening 3rd January for those who need to get out of the house! Meantime have a Very Happy Christmas with your families. Thank you to everyone who has supported us this year, especially DPL on York Road who have been generous with items like paint and plumbing gear.

The garden seats have been repaired using the old wardrobe. The children's three legged stools are nearly ready and we have finished the dovecotes. All in all a busy month. The Art group continues on Tuesday mornings and we have nearly returned to normal (except for wearing face coverings and continuing the Covid protocols). An unexpected present this month has been the delivery of 3 'new' laptops, courtesy of David Girvan a local community activist with the Social Democrats. These were given by some companies and 'cleaned up', installed with Windows 10 and delivered during a visit with Councillor Dave Quinn. We are very grateful for the early Christmas present.

We made two more garden seats to order and these have been delivered to happy customers. During the DLR Week of Inclusion we were happy to welcome visitors to the Shed and some bought our wood-turned pens, both wooden and acrylic. We are using an old hardwood wardrobe to repair two garden seats for a local lady. Ray also designed and made some Christmas dovecotes with LED lights. Some people who have seen them have now requested some more! We have also been asked to make two small three-legged stools for childrens' birthday. We are working on them. So if you want something just contact us by email or phone.

Some members have restored an old pump and installed it near the garden bench we made for our landlord, DEC church. The idea is to have a quiet reflective corner where the senses will be enjoyed through gentle flowing water noise, the smell of roses and lavender plants, sitting in the sun relaxing with a book, and tasting a cup of tea/coffee with refreshments. Members have been co-operating with the church gardening group tidying up overgrown beds and cutting back overgrowth that has occurred during the pandemic.
On 29th we held a Special General Meeting (to receive audited accounts) followed by a barbecue when members met up again in person.

Re-opened at last!.
What a harvest we had of broadbeans, peas, brocoli, salads, tomatoes, and cucumbers. members have enjoyed taking them home!
Members are coming back as our activities have resumed. And we are delighted to welcome some new members.
Shortly the Gardeners will clear out the greenhouses to make way for winter salads and vegetables. The outdoor beds have been cleared.
The Art Group is functioning face to face on Tuesday mornings. The wood-turners are thinking about making products for Christmas sales.

While still not permitted to re-open indoors we are hopeful that soon the Government regulations will permit us to do so. We continue to meet outdoors, socially distanced, and suitably atired with face-coverings. The Art Group are meeting on Friday afternoon to sketch and paint. One of us manages to boil the kettle so that we can avail of the customary social break using disposable cups etc. All the garden seat orders have been fulfilled, and we have a few more expected in the short term.
First early potatoes were dug this week and have gone down well with the broccoli, broadbeans, peas, and salads. Cut our first cucumber this week also, and the tomatoes are ripening fast.

This month we have had steady orders for our garden seats. A local residents' association have asked us to repair an old garden seat for an elderly resident. Our landlord, the DEC Church wants a 3 seater with arms, as a special way to say thank you for many years of faithful service by a couple in the church. One of our own members wants a 2 seater with arms for his daughter's birthday in July, and a neighbour wants a 3 seater with arms. Having fine-tuned the production line to do the work outdoors we are delighted to have these opportunities to be together and provide a service to the community.
The garden beds have produced lovely broccoli, peas, salads and the tomatoes are growing rampant in the green house.

We have been asked to make a garden seat for the local Cheshire Home. Fortunately the Government regulations allow us to make this outdoors maintaining social distance. We are not allowed to work in the workshop area but can take tools outside to fulfil the order. Thankfully the weather has been favourable. We have decided to stop the weekly Zoom meetings for members on Monday afternoon and for the Art Group on Friday afternoon, now that the weather permits us to meet outside, socially distanced and wearing face coverings. Members have also been availing of the vaccination programmes, so hopefully we will get back to face to face meetings soon for all.

Broccoli, peas, potatoes, tomatoes, strawberries, salads, gooseberries and rhubard are showing growth after the cold spell. Thanks to our neighbour who has provided us with a range of his tomatoes seedlings. We hope also to grow some cucumbers in the green house. This outdoor work at a social distance is a great outlet for some members who are happy to comply with Government regulations outdoors.
